Macon Touchdown Club

On Monday night, November 6th, the Macon Touchdown Club will welcome Matt Stinchcomb, former All-American lineman at UGA, and current ESPN Analyst as our feature speaker.

Two-time University of Georgia All American Lineman Matt Stinchcomb makes an appearance at the Club on November 6th. Stinchcomb played at Georgia from 1995 to 1998 and was a first team All American in 1997 and a consensus All American in 1998. He was a high school All American at Parkview in Atlanta. In addition to his All America honors, he won the Jacobs Blocking Trophy in 1998 as well as the Draddy Trophy and the Jim Parker Trophy. He is a member of the Georgia Florida Hall of Fame and has been nominated for the College Football Hall of Fame. Following his college playing days, he was a first round draft of the Oakland Raiders where he played from 1999 until 2003. He also was with Tampa Bay in 2004 and 2005. Today he works as a college football analyst for ESPNU and the SEC Network.

On Monday night, October 30th, the Macon Touchdown Club will welcome Coach Jim Grobe as our feature speaker.

Jim Grobe came out of retirement prior to the 2016 football season to coach at Baylor University after Art Briles was fired last summer. In his only season in Waco, he led the Bears to a 7-6 record and a 31-12 win over heavily favored Boise State in the Cactus Bowl in Arizona. Coach Grobe had retired from football in 2013 after spending 13 seasons at Wake Forest University. He led the Demon Deacons to unparalleled success during the 2006 season when they posted an 11-3 record which included an ACC championship and a 9-6 win over Georgia Tech in the title game, and a spot in the 2007 Orange Bowl where they lost to Louisville 24-13. Coach Grobe was a unanimous choice for ACC Coach of the year and was also named National Coach of the Year. He also served as head coach at Ohio University from 1995-2000.

Due a re-scheduled school activity for Brodie’s son, he will not be able to make our meeting. But, the Big Oak Ranch has offered us his Dad, John Croyle as a replacement. John played football at Alabama for Coach Bryant in the early 70’s, and after his playing days, he gave up an opportunity to play pro Football, and instead founded the Big Oak Ranch in 1974. I am disappointed that Brodie will not be able to make it, but family does come first, but i am really excited to have John Croyle join us tonight.

On Monday night, October 23rd, the Macon Touchdown Club will welcome Brodie Croyle, former Alabama quarterback and current Executive Director of Big Oak Ranch, as our feature speaker.

It is “Alabama” night for the Club on October 23 with former Crimson Tide quarterback Brodie Croyle giving his insight on what is happening at the Capstone. Croyle played at Alabama from 2002-2005 starting two games as a freshman and 11 as a sophomore, despite suffering a separated shoulder in the fifth game of the season. In the third game of his junior season he suffered an ACL injury and missed he remainder of the year. Fully recovered as a senior, he started all 12 games leading the Tide to a 10-2 record, including a win over Texas Tech in the Cotton Bowl and a number 8 national ranking. He was the MVP of the Cotton Bowl. Due to his proclivity to injury, he dropped to the third round of the NFL draft and was chosen by the Kansas City Chiefs where he was a part-time starter from 2006 until 2010.

Brodie Croyle is Executive Director of Big Oak Ranch, a Christian home for abused, neglected, orphaned and abandoned children. Big Oak Ranch consists of three ministries: Big Oak Girls’ Ranch in Springville, AL, Big Oak Boys’ Ranch in Gadsden, AL and Westbrook Christian School in Rainbow City, AL. Brodie, his family and the staff at Big Oak are grounded in one purpose – to relieve the suffering of children. Big Oak Ranch has been focused on doing just that since 1974, with nearly 2,000 children calling it home.

Brodie’s calling at Big Oak Ranch is founded in the words of Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

On Monday night, October 16th, the Macon Touchdown Club will welcome Dari Nowkhah, Lead anchor of the SEC Network as our feature speaker.

Club members get the perspective of ESPN’s Dari Nowkhah in their fifth meeting of the year. Nowkhah is the lead anchor at the SEC network which began operations in 2014. Prior to moving to ESPNU’s Charlotte, North Carolina headquarters, he spent 7 years at ESPN in Bristol, Connecticut where he hosted a variety of shows including Sports Center, Baseball Tonight and College Football Live. Since 2011 Nowkhah has hosted a weekly four hour show titled ilDari and Melli on ESPN alongside NFL draft expert Mel Kiper. He also fills in as host on a variety of other ESPN radio programs. Before taking a position at ESPN, Dari worked in television in Montana, Nebraska and Oklahoma. The Tulsa native graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a degree in broadcast journalism in 1998.

The Macon Touchdown Club is having our 6th Annual Boston Butt Sale. The price of the tickets are $35.00. The Boston Butts will be fully cooked and available for pick-up on Sunday, November 19th between 2:00 and 5:00pm at U Park EM U SELL EM, located at 3306 Vineville Avenue.

The proceeds benefit the Bobby Sanders Memorial Scholarship awarded by the Macon Touchdown Club. Each year the Macon Touchdown Club awards 5 scholarships to high school seniors.

Tickets are available through any of the Macon Touchdown Club members.

On Monday night, October 9th, the Macon Touchdown Club will welcome Coach Chris Hatcher, Head Coach of Samford University as our feature speaker.

Chris Hatcher, the current head football coach at Samford in Birmingham, makes his annual visit to the Club on October 9th. The Macon native is in his third year with the Bulldogs and over his previous two seasons has led his squad to a 13-10 record. In 2016 they finished 7-5 advancing to the FCS playoffs where they lost in the first round. Prior to Samford, Hatcher coached at his alma mater Valdosta State where he compiled a school best 76-12 record which included the 2004 NCAA Division II National Championship. He also coached at Georgia Southern for three seasons where he was at 18-15 and at Murray State for 5 seasons where his teams were 27-30. As a quarterback at VSC, he was a two time All American and winner of the Harland Hill Trophy which goes to the top player in NCAA Division II.
