On Monday night, October 2nd, the Macon Touchdown Club will welcome Coach Paul Johnson of Georgia Tech as our feature speaker.

Coach Johnson is in his 10th season as football coach at Georgia Tech making him the fourth longest tenured head man on the Flats. No coach since Bobby Dodd, who was on the Yellow Jacket sidelines for 27 years from 1940 until 1966, has been at the helm longer at Grant Field. His record at Tech is 70-48.
His 2009 team won the ACC Championship beating Clemson in the Title game before losing to Iowa in the Orange Bowl 24-14. Last season Tech finished with a 9-4 record which included a win over Kentucky in the Tax Slayer Bowl. Georgia Tech is Johnson’s third head job. He was at Georgia Southern, where he won two NCAA Division l-AA national Championships, from 1997 to 2001 and at Navy from 2002
through the 2007 season posting a 45-29 record including six consecutive wins over Army.

Schedule For Monday, September 25, 2017 *Change*

On Monday night, September 25th, the Macon Touchdown Club will welcome Coach Jerry Glanville, former coach of the Atlanta Falcons as our feature speaker.

Jerry Glanville is a former American football player and coach, former NASCAR driver and owner, and sportscaster. He served as head coach of the Houston Oilers from 1986 to 1990 and the Atlanta Falcons from 1990 to 1994. From 2007 to 2009, he was the Head Football Coach at Portland State University. Glanville has worked as an analyst on HBO’s Inside the NFL, CBS’s The NFL Today/NFL on CBS and Fox’s coverage of the NFL. He has also raced on the Automobile Racing Club of America circuit. Glanville also briefly served as a consultant and liaison for the United Football League in 2011.

Schedule For Monday, September 18, 2017

On Monday night, September 18th, the Macon Touchdown Club will welcome Coach Bobby Lamb of Mercer University as our feature speaker.

Mercer’s Bobby Lamb is in his 5th season as the Bears head football coach and during his first four years
has guided his team to a 27-19 overall record. Last season, the Bears finished with a 4-4 mark in the
Southern Conference which was good for a fifth place finish. Prior to coming to Mercer, he coached at
his Alma Mater, Furman University, for 9 seasons leading the Paladins to the 2004 Southern Conference
Championship. He was named So-Con Coach of the Year that season. His overall record is 93-59. Lamb
played high school football at Commerce leading his team to the 1981 AA State title. He was named AA
State Back of the Year. As Furman’s quarterback in 1985, he was Conference player of the year while
leading his team to a So-Con championship and a runner-up finish in Division I-AA.

On Monday night, September 11th, the Macon Touchdown Club will welcome J.T. Thomas as our feature speaker.

As always, we will meet at The Methodist Home For Children, in The Rumford Center. The address is 304 Pierce Avenue, and the meeting begins at 6:30 pm.

Macon native J.T. Thomas, who starred at Lanier High School and in college at Florida State before
beginning a 10 year NFL career, returns home to open the Macon Touchdown Club season on
September 11th. Thomas was an All State performer at Lanier for Coach Godfrey Steiner and then
earned All America Honors at FSU where he was the school’s first black football player. He was a first
round draft choice of the Pittsburgh Steelers following his senior season and was a member of 4 Super
Bowl winning squads as an integral part of the famed “steel curtain” defense. Thomas, who was a Pro
Bowl selection in 1976, played for the Steelers from 1973 until 1981 and ended his career at Denver
playing with the Broncos in 1982.

This event helps with our mission of promoting high school football in middle Georgia, and providing scholarships for local student athletes, through our Bobby Sanders Memorial Scholarships that are awarded each year.

Macon Touchdown Club Annual Spring Jamboree, February 13, 2017

On Monday night, February 13th, the Macon Touchdown Club will be holding its annual Spring Jamboree.
We are fortunate to have University of Georgia Head Coach Kirby Smart as our feature speaker again this year.

The cost of tickets will be $40, and can be picked up at U Park Em U Sell Em, located at 3306 Vineville Avenue, between the hours of 9:00AM and 6:00PM starting on Monday, February 6th. Tickets will be sold as first come, first serve.

Pick up the tickets from Russell Deese, cash and check only, made out to Macon Touchdown Club. For information, you can call Russell at 478-550-0524.

For non-members and guests of members, a ticket must be presented at the door for admittance.
